The second DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND Festival took place on 4th May 2018 in Bielefeld’s “Movie”. This year, three bands from three different countries were invited to play.
COCKATOO started the night, I had only seen them six days before at Gotham Sounds Festival. This time the Canadians had time for a proper soundcheck, so the beautiful songs sounded a bit better again. The stage lights were great as well, this made a photographer’s heart rather happy 😉
Afterwards, BOX AND THE TWINS were the German band of the day. When I had last seen them in 2014, they were still called “Coctail Twins”. Just as back then they delivered new-school Coldwave in the style of bands like Schonwald or The KVB, which got a good reception from the audience again.
Headliners were WHISPERING SONS, a band about which I have probably written everything already. It was my seventh gig by the Belgian band, and especially the new songs like “Got a Light” or “Waste” let the time to wait for the forthcoming album appear far too long.
Conclusion: A great mini festival with three great bands, and in a club that lets you get the night train to be home at 03:35 – that’s the way I like it 🙂
